How to Merge PDFs for a Job Application (Free, No Software)
Many application systems accept only one file. Merge before you send.
Many job and school application systems accept only one attachment, but the documents you need are many: a resume, an ID copy, certificates and portfolio work. Merging them into one PDF makes the reviewer's job easier and keeps anything from going missing.
Example document order
- Resume or application form
- ID card copy (watermark it first)
- Transcript or certificate
- Anything else the announcement asks for
Also check whether the announcement requires a particular order or format.
How to do it with this site's tool
- Open the Merge PDF tool
- Select all the PDFs and images at once. Images are turned into PDF pages
- Tap Merge into PDF and check the page count shown
- Save the file and open every page before sending
Tips
- Pages follow the order you selected the files, and some devices sort by file name, so start names with numbers, such as 1-resume, 2-ID, 3-certificate.
- Password-protected PDFs may not merge. Remove the password first.
- If the file is over the limit, shrink the images first, then merge.
The tool runs in your browser, and your documents are never sent to a server.
Name and order your files before merging
The tool merges in the order you select, and some devices sort by file name. Start names with numbers, such as 01-application, 02-resume, 03-ID-copy, 04-diploma, select them together, and the order will come out as you want.
Photograph documents clearly
- Place the page on a plain dark surface with all four edges visible.
- Shoot straight from above, not at an angle, and keep your hand's shadow off the page.
- Turn off the flash for glossy paper to avoid glare.
- Check that small text is readable before merging.
Watch the total size
Phone photos are large, so a PDF with many of them may be too big for the site. The tool scales each image to at most 2000 pixels before merging. If the file is still too big, shrink each image first with the Resize Photo tool and then merge.
Check before sending
- Open the result and scroll every page to make sure none is upside down and the order is right.
- Confirm the page count is what you expect.
- Watermark ID copies before merging. See the watermark guide.
- Give the final file a clear name, such as Firstname-Lastname-Application.pdf.
